A second man has been arrested in connection with a shooting at a Two Notch Road fast food restaurant last month, Columbia police say.

Torance Lamar Peoples, 20, is charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime, possession of a firearm of by a person convicted of a violent crime, discharging a firearm into an occupied building and seven counts of attempted murder. Peoples was on the run for nearly a month before U.S. Marshals and police tracked him down Wednesday at a Parklane Road Days Inn.

He joins Terrell Lamont Bethel, 23, at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. Bethel faces the same charges as Peoples.

The two are accused of firing into a crowd at a McDonalds restaurant at Two Notch Road and North Beltline Boulevard Sept. 15 after an argument in the restaurant’s parking lot.

The argument escalated into a physical fight and then several suspects drew guns and fired, police say.

Elgin 20-year-old Steve McCoy killed after he was shot in the head, and two other people were injured, police say.

No one has been charged with murder in McCoy’s death, because police are still trying to determine who shot the man, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said.

More arrests are possible in the case, police say. If you know anything about the incident, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or www.midlandsccrimestoppers.com
