LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT FREDDY HUANG has won first place in the Business Math category at the Future Business Leaders of America National Leadership Conference. Huang is a member of the Lexington Technology Center Future Business Leaders of America chapter.

LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER KELLY EVANS has received the South Carolina Credit Union League Financial Educator of the Year Award.

RICHLAND 2 has received a $1.2 million grant from the Department of Defense Education Activity. The money will fund Richland Two’s “The Victory Initiative.”

COMMUNITY

LEXINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF JAMES R. METTS has promoted four officers. The officers and their promotions include Michael Burke, sergeant; Kenneth Daniel Shearer, investigator with the Crime Scene Investigation Unit; Timothy Parcheta Sr., a victim assistance officer in the Major Crimes Unit; and John Lookabill Jr., sergeant.

MILITARY

NAVY SEAMAN NOAH C. LEARY has been promoted to his current rank upon graduation from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is a 2012 graduate of Camden Military Academy.

NAVY SEAMAN COREY A. MCGRADY has graduated with honors from Basic Electronics Technician School. He is the son of Harold H. McGrady of Columbia.

NAVY SEAMAN AUSTIN D. SCHACHT has completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is the son of Diane and Mikeal Schacht of Lexington.

CIVILIAN JULIUS J. DANIELS MARTINDALE has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. He is the son of Eugenia P. Daniels of Columbia.

CIVILIAN ARIAS R. GREENE has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. He is the son of Donny J. Greene of Columbia.

CIVILIAN SAVON S. REEVES has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. He is the son of Vinicius S. Gates of Columbia.

CIVILIAN MELODY N. VANCE has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. She is the daughter of Melissa B. and Timothy P. Vance of Columbia.

CIVILIAN SAMANTHA L. BAYER has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. She is the daughter of Nannette A. and Scott L. Bayer of Newberry.

CIVILIAN CHRISTOPHER D. RUTHERFORD has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. He is the son of Sonja R. Rutherford and Bobby E. Rutherford, both of Columbia.
