Attendance strong at SC State Fair

Published: October 22, 2012

Attendance at the South Carolina State Fair held strong this year.

The 452,576 attendance figures for the 2012 fair, which closed Sunday, was about 10,000 more than last year but behind the 492,395 recorded in 2010.

Even so, State Fair officials said they were happy with this year’s totals, which came despite there having been fewer advance ticket sales.

“They came and they really seemed to have a good time,” State Fair assistant manager, Nancy Smith said.

The turnout is credited largely to the ideal weather the area has experienced the past two weeks. There were only clouds and light drizzle late one evening of the fair.

“Otherwise it was a perfect fair,” Smith said.

Sunday’s final Grandstand show featuring Jake Owen and Eli Young had just more than 4,000 guests. The largest grandstand numbers were recorded a week earlier when the Love Fellowship Choir featuring Hezekiah Walker drew more than 4,500 guests for a free concert Oct. 14.

The 2013 State Fair is set for Oct. 9-20.
