A homeless Greenville man won $200,000 playing the lottery Thursday.

The man, who didn’t want to be identified, told South Carolina Education Lottery officials that he screamed and jumped when scratched off a winning combination in the Color of Money game.

He told officials he sat up all night admiring his winning ticket and on Friday had a brother drive him to lottery headquarters in Columbia to collect the prize.

“This will put me where I need to be,” the man said.

The man told lottery officials he had lived in Greenville his whole life and worked construction jobs in the area. Hard times hit, and he went to live in a local rescue mission.

“I went into the rescue mission to get my life together,” he said.

The man said he was going to use the winnings to take care of himself and his family.

“I’m getting my own place.

The store that sold the wining ticket received a $2,000 commission.
