SCHOOLS
LEXINGTON DISTRICT ONE teachers have been awarded 2012 Fall Michelin Golden Apple Teacher Grants. The recipients include Lucie Bingham and Judy Kopp, Gilbert Primary; Lois Byars, Brenda Dooley and Julie Shealy, Lake Murray Elementary; Jennifer Cooper and Jenny Johansson, Pleasant Hill Middle; Jeannie Epps and Kimberly Kay, Red Bank Elementary; Marjorie Isley, Saxe Gotha Elementary; Sue Ellen Shealy, Gilbert High; and Allyson Stoy, Gilbert Middle.
LEXINGTON AND RICHLAND COUNTY SCHOOLS are among 33 schools across the state that have been awarded the 2012-2013 Litter Trashes Everyone Education Grant. The Lexington recipients include Chapin High School, Crossroads Middle School, Gilbert Primary School, Irmo High School, Irmo Middle School, Lexington Middle School, Meadow Glen Elementary, Meadow Glen Middle School, Oak Grove Elementary, Pleasant Hill Elementary School, Rosenwald Community Learning Center, Sandhills Elementary, Swansea High School and Swansea High School Freshman Academy. The Richland recipients include Dutch Fork Elementary School, Heathwood Hall Episcopal School and St. John Neumann Catholic School.
BATESBURG-LEESVILLE MIDDLE SCHOOL Principal Angie Rye has been named as the first Chief Academic Officer for Lexington County School District Three. Rye is also the lead principal for the district.
LEXINGTON ONE has promoted Kimberly Johnson Scott to coordinator for support staff quality and development in Human Resources in the District Office.
COMMUNITY
KERRIE WELSH has received the 2012 Marian Wright Edelman Advocay Award. Welsh is the director of the South Carolina Program for Infant/Toddler Care.
THE GILLS CREEK WATERSHED ASSOCIATION has received a $15,000 grant from the Richland County Conservation Commission.
MILITARY
MARINE CORPS PFC. ANDREW S. RIAS has graduated from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. He is a 2011 graduate of Ridgeview High School.
AIR FORCE AIRMAN RASSOULL S. SHABAZZ has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Julian Shabazz of Columbia and Wessie Garrett of Simpsonville.
AIR NATIONAL GUARD AIRMAN ALEXANDER D. MANN has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of David Mann of Elgin.
AIR NATIONAL GUARD AIRMAN NEAL M. CHAVIS has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Libby Hunt of Lexington and the nephew of Charlie Thiret of Gaston.
AIR NATIONAL GUARD AIRMAN 1ST CLASS RACHEL M. WINBURN has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. She is the daughter of Loretta Winburn of Blythewood and the sister of Lindsay Winburn of Columbia.
ARMY PVT. LEXUS S. BRYANT has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson. He is the son of Corinthia Bryant of Columbia.
NAVY SEAMAN APPRENTICE JOSHUA G. PHILLIPS has been promoted to his current rank upon graduating from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is the son of Glo E. and Elwyn G. Phillips of Columbia.
