Columbia has first freeze of fall

— The first freeze of the fall came a little early to Columbia today.

The official temperature at Columbia Metropolitan Airport hit 32 this morning, according to the National Weather Service. Since the official weather site for the city moved to the airport in 1948, the average date of the first freeze is Nov. 3.

This is the earliest freeze in Columbia since 2008, when the temperature hit 32 on Oct. 29. Last year, the first freeze in Columbia was Nov. 12.

The morning lows are expected to rise to around 40 Friday and the low 50s during the weekend, according to the weather service.

Orangeburg Municipal Airport also had its first freeze of the season this morning with a low temp of 32.
