Chakisse Newton, president of Cardinal Consulting LLC, has been named the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce 2012 Young Leader of the Year. The award is given to a young professional who shows outstanding leadership, promotes the business community and demonstrates civic involvement. A graduate of Blueprint for Leadership and a Leadership Columbia Alumni, Newton is the current board chairwoman for COR. She also serves on the boards of the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce, the Navigating from Good to Great Foundations and the Friends of the Richland County Public Library.
