COLUMBIA, SC — A police officer responding to a domestic violence call early Friday morning ended up shooting and wounding one of the people involved in the fight.
The Columbia Police Department said the department was called to 1810 Allen Benedict Court around midnight by a person not involved in the fight. When an officer arrived, he could hear the assault and entered the apartment. He said a man was attacking a woman, so the officer tried to subdue him.
The officer said the man, identified as Anthony Antron Walker, 28, Columbia, tried to grab his weapon so he fired at him, striking him. Walker was taken to Palmetto Health Richland hospital.
The police department did not have an update on his condition.
The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division will investigate the incident, standard procedure when an officer is involved in a shooting.
This story will be updated when more information is available.
