Lexington 1 officials cancelled a pep rally before White Knoll High’s football game Friday after a frenzy among students that an unspecified, possibly violent, incident would happen at the event.
“It was just talk, but we erred on the side of caution,” district spokeswoman Mary Beth Hill said.
Deputies assigned to the school checked out the report, she said.
Some students called or texted parents with the rumor, some of whom came to the school and were allowed to take their child home, Hill said.
The football game, against Lexington High, will go on as scheduled.
