LEXINGTON, SC — Two junior players with South Carolina ties have advanced to the semifinals of the International Tennis Federations tournament at Lexington Tennis Center.
Andrew Schafer, who is enrolled in the Smith Stearns Academy in Hilton Head Island and is a signee with the USC mens team, beat Jake Devine in Wednesdays quarterfinals, 6-4, 6-2. He will face 14th-seeded William Blumberg at 9 a.m. today.
Hayley Carter, a Columbia native who also trains at the Smith Stearns Academy, advanced after beating 16th-seeded Mia Horvit, 6-4, 6-1. She will face sixth-seeded Rianna Valdes in the semifinal match following Schafers.
