A Dutch Fork High School teacher accused of posting an offensive political sign in her classroom has returned to teaching.
Laurie Humphrey, a social studies teacher, drew complaints from parents and students last month after posting a sign in her government class that read, The road to hell is paved with Democrats. Humphrey has 15 years of teaching experience, including 11 years in Lexington-Richland 5.
Humphrey was removed from the classroom for less than a week as the district conducted an investigation into the sign, said Mark Bounds, a district spokesman.
An appropriate disciplinary action was taken, Bounds said, although he would not elaborate.
We obviously took it really seriously and we used it as an opportunity to remind our teachers of our policy of keeping polticial opinions out of the classroom, he said.
