Man charged with attempted murder of girlfriend in Richland County home

Published: November 15, 2012

— A Richland County man has been arrested and accused of a burglary and attempted murder after a Wednesday night incident at his girlfriend’s home.

Caleb Canzater, 22, is accused by the Richland County Sheriff's Department of breaking into the 28-year-old woman’s home on Crane Church Road off Fairfield Road and assaulting her.

The victim, who notified authorities around 11 p.m., accused Canzater of wait for her to arrive home, then tried to fire a weapon at her. The weapon jammed, so she said Canzater used it to beat her on the head and body before fleeing. She was hospitalized, but her condition was not available, department spokesman Curtis Wilson said.

Investigators arrested Canzater before noon Thursday at a relative’s home on Lincolnshire Court.
