RICHLAND COUNTY, SC — A suspect who escaped earlier this month while being detained at a Richland County Sheriffs Department has been captured in Charlotte.
Corie Lawrence, 31, was stopped Thursday morning for a traffic violation by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, according to a report from the Richland County sheriffs office. He is being held in Charlotte while he awaits extradition to Richland County.
Lawrence was wanted on charges of burglary, five counts of kidnapping, five counts of attempted armed robbery, discharging a weapon in a dwelling and escape.
He allegedly held five people at gunpoint on Nov. 2 in a home on the 2800 block of Bettys Lane, the sheriffs department reported. Deputies arrived while the attempted robbery was in progress and arrested Lawrence.
Lawrence was taken for questioning to the departments Region 4 headquarters on Beatty Road, which is near Broad River Road. While there, he allegedly escaped through a back door.
