— Leodis McKelvin scored on a 79-yard punt return, and the Mario Williams-led Buffalo Bills oft-maligned defense flexed its muscles in a 19-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night.

Safety Jairus Byrd recovered a fumble and made a diving interception, and Bryan Scott sealed the win with an interception to end the Dolphins’ final drive. Williams had one of three sacks for a Buffalo defense that limited the Ryan Tannehill-led Dolphins to 184 yards.

That was enough to make up for an offense that settled for Rian Lindell’s four field goals on four drives into the red zone.

Julio Jones misses practice

Atlanta Falcons receiver Julio Jones missed practice for the second straight day with an ankle injury and will be a game-time decision against Arizona. Coach Mike Smith did not say which ankle is bothering Jones.

Eagles move closer toward starting Foles

Nick Foles practiced with the first team this week and stuck around for extra film work. He’s ready to make his first career NFL start for the Philadelphia Eagles.

All he needs now is to officially and publicly be named the starter. The Eagles again practiced another day without injured quarterback Michael Vick. The veteran has sat out since suffering a severe concussion in last week’s loss to Dallas, turning playcalling duties over to Foles, a third-round draft pick.

Cutler remains sidelined by concussion

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler missed practice, and his playing status remains in question because of a concussion.

Coach Lovie Smith said Cutler continues to improve, but it’s not clear if he’ll be ready to play at San Francisco on Monday night. If Cutler can’t play, Jason Campbell will likely start.

Jim Harbaugh has procedure for irregular heartbeat

San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh was sent to the hospital for a “minor procedure” after doctors discovered he had an irregular heartbeat. The team said it anticipates Harbaugh will be back at the 49ers’ facility today, though it’s unclear in what capacity. No details about the procedure were given.

Browns’ Haden misses practice

Joe Haden missed practice with an oblique injury, and Cleveland may be missing its top cornerback — and arguably best defensive player — on Sunday against Dallas.
