Monday: Now is the time for compromise

Published: November 19, 2012

Although South Carolina’s congressional members are not alone in stymieing efforts of the president to reach a sensible compromise that will avoid the fiscal cliff, they certainly are contributors to the inaction on this most important effort. Guys, please work with your president instead of fighting him.

The election is over; it’s time to do what’s in the best interest of the people in all 50 states, including ours. History has determined that a low tax rate for millionaires does nothing to stimulate job creation. Use your heads instead of your hearts and find a way to protect middle-class tax rates while raising those for the ones who can best afford to pay more.

It’s simple arithmetic, as former President Clinton reminded us during the final days of the campaign. Come on now; there’s no time to waste. Cut the filibuster crap and just do it.
