SCHOOLS
THE RIDGEVIEW HIGH SCHOOL JROTC MARKMANSHIP TEAM has won the Division II Rifle Competition, which was held at Blythewood High School.
TEAM RICHLAND 1 has raised $36,315.50 in support of the Palmetto Health Foundation’s 2012 Breast Cancer Walk for Life/Race for Life.
DONALD SARAZEN has been named one of three state finalists for the 2012 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in grades K-6. Sarazen is a teacher at H.B. Rhame Elementary School.
LEXINGTON DISTRICT 2 has had 10 students selected to participate in the 2013 South Carolina All-State Chorus. The students include Sallie Johnson, McKenzie Ouzts, Emma Young, Courtney Johnson, Stacie Riley, Caleb Henderson, David LaTorre and Joel Smith.
COMMUNITY
KATRINA AND JOHN WILLIAMS have been chosen as the 2012 Outstanding Foster Parents of the Year by the Richland County Department of Social Services. Katrina is an instructional assistant at Caughman Road Elementary School.
FIFTY-FIVE RICHLAND 1 EMPLOYEES volunteered 150 hours of service at the Harvest Hope Food Bank and other non-profits during October. Harvest Hope Food Bank volunteers included employees Abreian Myers, Dianna Wells, Dorothy Edwards and Debbie McDonald.
YOUTH
CODY FREEMAN AND ERICK VELAZQUEZ won first and third places, respectively, in the third annual Sheriff James R. Metts Catfish Tournament. Freeman and Velazquez are eighth graders at Pine Ridge Middle School.
MORGAN BACON has been crowned Miss S.C. High School America. Bacon is a junior at Brookland-Cayce High School.
MILITARY
NAVY SEAMAN AARON L. WASHINGTON has completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is the son of Delores and Sylvester Williams of Elgin.
NAVY CHIEF PETTY OFFICER HERSCHEL L. MIMS has competed in the ship’s Damage Control Olympics with fellow sailors aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Farragut (DDG 99). He is the son of Linda D. Smith and Herschel D. Mims, both of West Columbia.
MARINE CORPS PVT. MATHEW W. KIBLER has graduated from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. He is the son of Loraine E. and Jack M. Kibler of West Columbia.
AIR FORCE RESERVE AIRMAN 1ST CLASS DAVID O. HEARD has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is a 1997 graduate of William J. Keenan High School.
AIR NATIONAL GUARD AIRMAN 1ST CLASS MICHAEL R. MONTGOMERY has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Connie Montgomery of Gaston and the grandson of Michael Arant of Eastover.
AIR FORCE AIRMAN JEFFREY E. BONEY has graduated from military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is a 2008 graduate of Blythewood High School.
