To our readers:
There are no Business and stock pages in todays paper, because the markets were closed Thursday for Thanksgiving. Markets will reopen today.
Some Midlands-area shoppers started lining up Wednesday for the big doorbuster sales, some of which kicked off Thanksgiving night.
But no worries. There are tons of good deals today, one of the years biggest shopping days.
Many Columbia-area stores are opening early and will stay open well into the evening. So are the malls. A sampling:
Columbiana Centre, 100 Columbiana Circle: 6 a.m.-10 p.m., with 50-plus stores opening at midnight.
Columbia Place, 7201 Two Notch Road: 6 a.m.-10 p.m., with nearly 20 stores opening at midnight.
Dutch Square, 421 Bush River Road: 7 a.m.-9 p.m.
Richland Mall, 3400 Forest Drive: 7 a.m.-9 p.m.
Village at Sandhill, Clemson and Two Notch roads: 8 a.m.-9 p.m., with nearly 30 stores opening at midnight and the hours soon after.
If youre heading out early, better bring along a jacket. The day will warm up, though, with sunny skies and highs in the low 70s. In fact, the skies will be sunny all weekend, though temperatures Saturday and Sunday will be slightly cooler.
If Black Friday shopping doesnt get you into the holiday spirit, there are plenty of events on tap that will.
A favorite tradition, the Lights Before Christmas at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden, is open 6-9 nightly (closed Dec. 24-25), featuring Santas Village, a giant snow globe, Jingle Bell Bonfire, snow and more. Its $10; ages 3-12, $8 (advance tickets, $8 and $6); one free visit with Riverbanks membership card and picture ID; guest passes not accepted. Parking on the zoo side only.
