SCHSL committee performed poorly
I was a disinterested observer of the dispute between Goose Creek and the High School League Executive Committee until the committee ruled to not support a plea from the school for leniency.
A rule was broken, so fine the school, suspend the coach, take them all to the principal’s office and paddle them. But to punish the kids who have worked so hard all year to get where they were in their season, not only is ridiculous, but childish.
The committee members are so eaten up with their own self importance and so upset that anyone could even think to challenge their authority that they sent a message to those kids: We are in charge and we do what we want.
I am not for cheating in sports or allowing any team to gain an unfair advantage, but given the facts in this case, no reasonable individual could slam the gavel down on the death penalty for this school’s football season.
The committee members should all be embarrassed to have their name associated with the vote. For the two members who voted for mercy, well done. You have a sense of right and wrong. For those that voted thumbs down and the commissioner, you should resign.
Let individuals serve on the committee that really care about our children.
