High school football: These ‘Joes’ make an impact

Published: November 26, 2012

WHILE THERE IS a lot to good coaching that gets a team to the state championship, most coaches will tell you that often it is more about the “Jimmys” and the “Joes” than the Xs and Os.

Let’s take a look at impact players to watch in the upcoming Weekend of Champions.

Quarterbacks

Keiston Smith, Union County: The best you will see this weekend. Has thrown for more than 5,000 yards.

Derek Olenchuk, Dutch Fork: Has quietly become and excellent field general of one of the state’s most productive offenses.

Mason Rudolph, Northwestern: Leads the top passing attack in 4A. Has an offer from LSU.
