2 arrested in attempted Irmo bike theft

Two Columbia men accused of attempting to steal bicycles from an Irmo home Thursday have been arrested.

Benjamin Derrick Bethel, 22, and Tyrone Lamar Martin, 18, are both charged with first-degree burglary. Deputies say the two Went into a garage at a Goldestone Drive Home and tried to steal to bicycles valued at a combined $600.

The home’s owner saw the suspects who were later arrested at a nearby home on Sterling Bridge Road. The homeowner later identified Bethel and Martin as the two suspects in the garage, deputies say.

Both men are being held at the Lexington County Detention Center awaiting bond hearings.
