WEST COLUMBIA, SC — Lexington County Sheriff’s deputies and a bloodhound tracked down a man wanted for stealing money and a flashlight from cars.

Christian James Woods, 20, of Gaston was charged with two counts of breaking into a motor vehicle. He was being held Friday at the Lexington County Detention Center.

Woods allegedly opened two cars that had been left unlocked outside homes Thursday night on Eargle Drive in West Columbia. He is accused of taking a Maglight flashlight and a wallet from a 1995 GMC Sierra pickup and $5.45 stored in a pill bottle inside a 2000 Nissan Sentra, according to a Lexington County Sheriff’s Department report.

A third neighbor on Eargle Drive saw Woods rummaging through a car outside his home and called the sheriff’s department, the report said. Woods fled into nearby woods where he was captured by the deputies who used the bloodhound, named Forest, to track him, the sheriff’s report said.

Woods was carrying the flashlight and the pill bottle of money, the sheriff’s report said. The wallet was found in a trash dumpster.
