LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC — Deputies say the man accused of robbing a Batesburg-Leesville truck stop only to have the items taken back in the business’s parking lot has been arrested.
Patrick David Lybrand, 24, is charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
He is accused of going into the Hillview Truck Stop on Ben Franklin Road outside of Batesburg Leesville armed with an assault rifle, pointing the gun at the clerk and demanding $61 in cash and a carton of cigarettes.
After the robbery, the clerk chased the suspect into the parking lot and confronted the man, deputies say. He took the suspect’s rifle along with the stolen cash and cigarettes. The clerk later identified the man as Lybrand and said he regularly bought items from the truck stop.
Before the robbery, deputies said he looked inside the business with his face uncovered. Then he put a bandana over his face and entered the store carrying the rifle underneath his shirt, deputies said.
