Two significant basketball events are on tap this weekend in the Midlands.

The Hampton Inn Northeast Palmetto Challenge runs on Friday and Saturday at Richland Northeast and Ridge View high schools, while the inaugural We Are Next! Challenge for girls takes place at Dutch Fork Middle School.

The Palmetto Challenge schedule:

Friday at Richland NE: Westwood (girls) vs. RNE (5:30 p.m.); Pinewood Prep vs. Kennedy Charter (7 p.m.); Westwood vs. RNE (8:30 p.m.).

Friday at Ridge View: Cardinal Newman vs. Dutch Fork (7 p.m.); Carolina Forest vs. Ridge View (8:30 p.m.).

Saturday at Richland NE: Lexington (girls) vs. RNE (2 p.m.); Lexington vs. Cardinal Newman (3:30 p.m.); Kennedy Charter vs. Keenan (5 p.m.); Carolina Forest vs. RNE (6:30 p.m.).

Saturday at Ridge View: Dutch Fork vs. Sumter (2 p.m.); Columbia vs. Pinewood Prep (3:30 p.m.); Olympic NC vs. Spring Valley (5 p.m.); Metrolina Christian vs. Ridge View (6:30 p.m.).

The We Are Next! Challenge schedule:

Friday: Carolina Forest vs. Northwood Academy (6 p.m.); Ridge View vs. Potter’s House FLA (7:30 p.m.); Dutch Fork vs. Pinewood Prep (9 p.m.).

Saturday: Cardinal Newman vs. Carolina Forest (Noon); Keenan vs. Northwood Academy (1:30 p.m.); Pinewood Prep vs. Potter’s House (3 p.m.); Dutch Fork vs. Ridge View (4:30 p.m.).
