KERSHAW COUNTY, SC — A 53-year-old man died early Sunday morning after he was ejected from his pickup truck during a wreck.

Billy Ray Gainey of Mt. Pisgah was not wearing a seat belt when his 1981 Toyota pickup swerved off the road, said Kershaw County coroner Johnny Fellers.

Gainey was driving north on Threatt Road, in the northern half of the county, at 12:55 a.m. when he drove his pickup off the road, according to a report from the highway patrol. He ran into a private driveway, causing the pickup to overturn and hit a tree.

The accident remains under investigation.
