Camdens basketball season finally got underway last week, and both Bulldogs varsity teams came away with 2-0 records in early with a sweep of archrival Lugoff-Elgin capping the sweep.
The Bulldogs boys had to sweat out a 62-61 win over the host Demons, the winning point coming on a free-throw by Delton Bradford. It was the 15th points of the game for the 6-foot-4, 300-pound junior center. Josh Council led Camden with 16 points. Dre Scott and Stephan Hunter shared scoring honors for L-E with 16 points apiece.
Camdens girls had a much easier time of it in a 63-36 win. Quasha Jefferson led the Bulldogs with 18 points, while Sharneece Gary fired in 17 with the aid of five 3-point field goals.
The L-E boys (2-3) were fresh from a wild, 95-93 overtime win against Central on Tuesday. The Demons needed a 30-21 edge in the fourth quarter to force extra time. Senior Bobby Gary led the Demon scoring fest with 28 points on 10-for-15 shooting from the field. William Grant backed Gary with 20 points. Michael Sumter and Scott tallied 16 and 10 points, respectively. Grants big night also included 20 rebounds.
