LEXINGTON 1: Just like racecars take to the track at Daytona International Speedway, New Providence Elementary students raced around the Boosterthon Speedway for fitness, fun and funds. Students participated in a fun run on the Boosterthon Speedway as part of the Boosterthon Fun Run program. The program teaches students about fitness, character traits and teamwork, while helping to raise money for the school. The school kicked off the program with a pep rally and followed that up with Team Days. During the Team Days, classes picked a team name, created team banners and learned about important character traits. On the big day of the Fun Run, students completed 35 laps in 30 minutes on the Boosterthon Speedway. Parents lined the speedway and cheered on the students while the school’s administrators cheered from the school’s rooftop. Sponsors, friends and family members pledged money based on the number of laps ran. The school collected more than $27,000 in pledges that will help pay for a shade structure for the school’s playground. Here, New Providence Elementary principal Van Bowers and assistant principals Jason Black and Debbie Poole cheer on students from the school’s rooftop during the Boosterthon Fun Run.
