No excuse for voting debacle

Published: December 12, 2012

— I doubt that Gov. Nikki Haley’s 38 percent approval rating means anything, with two years remaining on her term. If anyone wants to see a really poor job performance, they only have to look at the election in Richland County.

I have worked in the polls in Lexington County for 20 years, and all the poll workers know that you need a voting machine for every 250 voters so you won’t have mass confusion on Election Day. You need to have all your machines checked out to make certain that they are in good working order and all poll workers trained within a month before each election. Dean Crepes, director of the Lexington County Commission of Registration and Elections, never would have allowed anything to happen like it did in Richland County.

I feel sorry for all the voters who had to stand in line for so much longer than was necessary in order to cast their ballot. There needs to be a change at the top, and it needs to be done very quickly.
