NBC should suspend Costas

Published: December 12, 2012

— It was tragic to hear that Jovan Belcher, a young NFL linebacker from the Kansas City Chiefs, decided to kill his girlfriend and then commit suicide, leaving an infant child to be raised without a father or mother. We here in South Carolina know all about deaths from domestic violence; we’re among the nation’s leaders in this grim category.

What did the NFL do? Well, we all know the most important thing to the NFL is money, so the game between the hapless Carolina Panthers and the hapless Chiefs went on as scheduled. This meaningless game between two of the worst teams in the league should have been canceled.

Worse, in a pre-game segment, NBC commentator Bob Costas blamed this murder-suicide on what he considers lax gun laws in this country. Are you kidding me?

The framers of our Constitution granted us the right to bear arms in the Second Amendment. If NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has any backbone, he should have demanded that NBC suspend Bob Costas for the remainder of the season.

Citizens such as me who have a legally purchased firearm to protect their family and property are not a problem. All of these illegal firearms that can be purchased on the street corner by thugs and crooks are the problem.
