Columbia, SC — The resignation of Sen. Jim DeMint should be met with joy in South Carolina.
He did the state no good as senator, and now he has decided to take the money and run rather than do the honorable thing and complete his term of office. He is leaving to accept a job that is likely to pay him a million dollars a year. He should be criticized for this, not praised.
He epitomized what is wrong with government: the inability to work with others for the common good. His approach did not help the country or his state.
Such a narrow-minded approach, from the right or left, is an impediment to progress, and we should demand better. Let’s hope his replacement can help solve some problems rather than just grandstanding.
