COLUMBIA, SC — Police have charged a man with several traffic offenses after a high-speed chase on Garners Ferry Road just after midnight Wednesday.
Brandon Reshard Burden, 33, is being held at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on reckless driving, driving under suspension and failure to stop for blue lights charges. He's accused of leading police on a high-speed chase on Garners Ferry and Old Hopkins roads before wrecking his Cadillac sedan and running on foot.
Police were called to the La Quinta Inn off Garners Ferry Road to investigate a report of a suspicious person walking around the parking lot and looking into cars, according police reports. When officers got to the scene, a tipster said the suspect got into a white Cadillac and left the scene.
Police spied the vehicle in question and gave chase when the driver allegedly refused to stop on their command. The Cadillac speeds exceeded more than 100 miles per hour in the chase, according to reports.
About 4 miles away, the vehicle ran off the road and hit a tree on Old Hopkins Road. The driver got out and ran into the woods, where he was captured.
While further details are not available, Timmons said the yet-to-be-identified suspect likely will be checked out for injuries. Charges are pending.
