Aja Wilson flashed mid-season form in her first game of the season on Tuesday, scoring 29 points and grabbing 19 rebounds in 29 minutes of action while leading Heathwood Hall to a come-from-behind 69-65 win over Penfield (NY) in the first round of the CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
Wilson was 9-for-17 from the field and also contributed five assists, five blocks and three steals to the Highlander cause. Victoria Dickerson had a big game, as well, with 24 points on 9-for-13 shooting.
Heathwood (4-4) trailed 36-28 at halftime, but chipped away after the break and took the lead for good (52-50) on two free throws by Dickerson with 5:56 remaining. Penfield made one late move, hitting a 3-pointer with 31 seconds left to cut the deficit to 66-62, but two free throws by Dickerson, who went 6-for-7 at the line, with 27 seconds to go made it academic.
Heathwood Hall is off until Thursday when it faces the winner of todays Perry County (KY) Central vs. Edgewater (FL) game at 5 p.m.
