A.C. Flora wins on Howard's late shot

A.C. Flora opened the 11th annual Chick-fil-Classic at Richland Northeast with a 66-64 win over Hillcrest. The Falcons return to action at 3:55 p.m. on Friday with a shot at advancing to the Classic II championship game on Saturday.

Matt Howard’s jumper with five seconds to go was the winner, coming seven seconds after the Rams tied the score at 64-64. Howard and sophomore Rion Davis were the Falcons leaders. Howard rang up a double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds. He also had four assists. Davis tallied 22 points on 10-for-15 shooting. Karl Gamble was also key for Flora with 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting and seven rebounds.

The Falcons (4-4) were seemingly in command with a 55-40 lead with 6:14 to go, but Hillcrest stormed back to pull even with 12 seconds remaining.

Flora will face the winner of today’s game between Miller School (VA) and Flora Macdonald Academy (NC).
