SC DNR allows Free Hunting Days in early January

Published: December 22, 2012

Trying to encourage more hunting, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources will allow two free hunting days Jan. 4-5.

On those days, you don’t need a state hunting license or other required documents such as Wildlife Management Area permits or Migratory Waterfowl permits. The “Free Hunting Days” rules apply only to state requirements, so you will need a federal duck stamp to hunt migratory waterfowl.

This is the first time the state natural resources agency has allowed free hunting on the first weekend of the year. Existing seasons, bag limits and methods of take still apply.

Free Hunting Days is available only to S.C. residents, and rules apply to all lands in which hunting is typically allowed, including private lands and Wildlife Management Areas.
