With the kidnapping, and news of the subsequent release, of the NBC newsman Richard Engel and his crew in Syria, we should be reminded that even though this story ended successfully, the same cannot be said of the many journalists who die annually covering conflict. Where are those stories?
While we look back at another year gone by, let’s not forget those brave men and women who have risked their lives bringing us the news from hostile environments. May their life’s work not have gone in vain.
