Columbia, SC — Columbia has shown great pride and support for the USC Gamecocks. I now ask that we show pride in our highways.
As I drive every morning from Chapin via I-26 to I-20 and on to I-77, I can’t help but notice the amount of litter, trash, dead animals and chunks of huge tires scattered up and down the highway. What does this say about the quality of life in this area?
It seems like the perfect act of restitution for those serving time in our prisons would be to get them out in the fresh air for some exercise and work. And I know that civic-minded groups clean up roads in designated areas, but who is responsible for the highways? We should all feel ashamed for how we have allowed our highways to look like garbage dumps. What happened to “Keep America beautiful”?
