Columbia, SC — Chamberlain Branch was a friend, mentor and supporter to our daughter, who worked with him at the Governor’s Mansion, and she will greatly miss him. My wife and I always felt that in Mr. Branch our daughter had someone she could count on and who would help her in any way.
A lot of questions have crossed my mind since we learned that he was killed by a driver involved in a high-speed chase. One is why was it so important that the Cayce police chase a stolen car into the city of Columbia? How could this end well? If this chase could not be avoided, why was there not a roadblock set up somewhere, to force the driver to make a decision to stop the car or crash into patrol cars?
A high-speed chase over a stolen car does not seem like it is worth the cost that Mr. Branch’s family and friends are having to pay. Our daughter and our family will miss Chamberlain greatly.
