Richland County, SC — I was in charge of the Richland County Voter Registration Office until my retirement in 2006. I believed at that time that my successor would have been someone other than Lillian McBride. Lillian McBride is a nice person and was a good clerk, but I never envisioned her being capable of being head of the department.

When a legislator approached me about my successor, he told me the decision was already made and that he hoped the staff would back it and continue to do the good job that they were doing. Politics was the only consideration.

This arrangement worked well because the staff continued to do the work while Lillian McBride held the title and salary. Now, under the new arrangement that calls for her to oversee elections as well as voter registration, the truth bounces out.

It is sad to say, but Lillian McBride has accepted promotions and salaries that she was not competent to hold. She and the entire new staff that was hired to handle the 2012 election should be fired or allowed to resign.
