RICHLAND COUNTY, SC — A 25-year-old man has been charged with three counts of attempted murder following a New Year’s Day slashing at a Richland County mobile home park.
Jose Castro-Benegas is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing, deputies said. Deputies accuse the man of stabbing three men after they tried to stop him from slapping a woman at the home in the 2900 block of Alpine Road about 3 a.m. Tuesday.
When deputies arrived at the home, they found two of the men laying on the ground with stab wounds to the upper body and the third standing with similar wounds. All three men were taken to Palmetto Health Richland, where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Casto-Benegas left the home before deputies arrived, but he was tracked down after investigators interviewed the man’s acquaintances and witnesses at the scene.
