Man wielding machete arrested, charged with attempted murder

— A man wielding a machete has been charged with attempted murder after an altercation in a north Columbia neighborhood turned violent Saturday, officials said.

The incident occurred just before 2:30 a.m. at a home in the 300 block of Crane Creek Drive, said Richland County Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Curtis Wilson.

Deputies arriving on the scene determined there had been a fight between Juan Angel Cabora, 32, and another man at the home, Wilson said.

Cabora had beaten the man who had then escaped into a room at the residence and locked the door. Cabora then grabbed a machete and tried to hack his way through door, Wilson said.

Cabora was being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. The victim had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
