Sunday: Haley merits support

Published: January 6, 2013

— I applaud Gov. Nikki Haley for trying to keep her campaign promises. She vetoed a number of items in the budget, only to have them overridden by lawmakers. Some pundits screamed with banner headlines, “Angry lawmakers rebuke Haley.”

She has helped bring much-needed jobs to our state, and is dedicated to making South Carolina more “business friendly.”

She pushed for recorded votes in the Legislature. Accountability is a just and proper thing. We, the voters and taxpayers, have a vested interest and a right to know how the good-ol’-boy fraternity is spending the hard-earned money we send to Columbia.

She had to be cleared of ethics violations not once, but twice, before the boys’ club decided it had lost. Now some attempt to blame her personally for the hacking issue.

We gave Gov. Haley 51 percent of the votes cast for governor. I suggest that you continue to show your support. Write a letter, send a fax, forward an email or make a phone call. Remind those angry lawmakers who continue to obstruct any actions that might change their club that we can establish term limits by voting them out at the end of their terms.
