It’s unfair to generalize that all high school coaches in South Carolina are overpaid. Coaches spend hours with their athletes, in practice, at games, all away from their families, and dealing with team matters.
As a varsity cheerleader, I see the hours of preparation my head coach goes through to make us a better team. In my opinion she is paid way too little.
She is busy in the offseason finding solutions to problems, making preparations for better facilities, filing paperwork for competitions in the upcoming year, looking into fundraising possibilities. And that’s just a few of the things she does.
These coaches likely work twice as many unpaid hours as paid. To say they deserve less pay is ridiculous.
