Monday: It’s government we should fear

Published: January 7, 2013

The Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre was horrible. I pray mass murders will never happen again, but I know they will — with or without gun control. In his Dec. 19 column, Eugene Robinson said “politicians who are too craven or stupid or ideologically rigid to finally move forward on gun control will have the blood of future victims on their hands.”

Count me in this naughty list. In fact, if we use Mr. Robinson’s requirements to join this craven and stupid group, our founding fathers would have to be included.

Our founding fathers had the wisdom to put the Second Amendment in our Bill of Rights because they were very well educated and knew history, and history clearly showed them that people are not what you should fear — government is. History showed them over and over again that government could not be trusted because government always seeks more power, and power ultimately corrupts.
