Having seen the best of quail hunting in South Carolina and big-game hunting in Kenya, I gave my hunting gun to one of my sons.

When Pat Kelsey, basketball coach at Winthrop, commented on the horrors at Sandy Hook Elementary School, it resonated with me.

I hope we will do all we can to draw a sharp line between hunting weapons and assault rifles and to protect our children and grandchildren.

I also hope that I am not alone in these thoughts.
