CASSATT, SC — Kershaw County deputies said a trail of Cheetos lead them to a burglary suspect Sunday.
Austin Lee Westfall Presler, 19, was charged with second-degree burglary after deputies arrested him at a home on Cassatt Road in Cassatt. Hes accused of breaking into the Cassatt Country Store nearby and stealing beer, cigarettes snacks and energy drinks, according to a Kershaw County Sheriffs Department release.
A man delivering gas to the store that morning noticed that the glass had been shattered in the store and called police. When officers arrived, they found Cheetos strewn throughout the store.
A white car was caught speeding away from the store on surveillance footage, and someone living near the store saw the vehicle.
After a foot search, deputies found the car parked outside a Cassatt Road home. Fresh Cheetos could be seen on the homes porch, deputies said.
After getting permission to enter the home, they found Presler inside, along with items stolen from the store.
Presler was booked into Kershaw County Detention Center but was released on a $15,000 bond.
