From a Dec. 21 front page article in The State: Asked how to stop another Newtown, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham said in a statement “One way is to take every sharp object out of society.” But, the Seneca Republican added, that is not practical.
Are you kidding me? With an attitude like this, we would not have any laws to safeguard society. Every recent poll I have heard about tells me that most Americans, including most responsible members of the NRA, want a ban on assault rifles and high-capacity clips and magazines.
We need responsible leaders. We need to do everything we can to keep instruments of mass murder out of the hands of nut-jobs. I hope someone starts a gun equivalent to MADD; I would love to join it and become an activist.
I am a retired white guy who owns guns and used to be a supporter of Lindsey Graham’s, but I won’t be anymore unless he changes his views. I have put a copy of the article on my dresser bureau, so every morning I will be reminded to tell everyone I meet about Mr. Graham’s views. Mr. Graham may be concerned about being primaried from the right, but he should also be concerned about being elected by the center.
Enough is enough.
