RICHLAND COUNTY, SC — Bill Flemming will be the new chairman of the Richland 2 school board.
Flemming, a Richland County dentist, was elected Tuesday night for the one-year term, succeeding Calvin “Chip” Jackson. It will be his sixth stint as chair. Susan Brill was elected vice chair and Melinda Anderson, secretary.
Also Tuesday, the district announced that 35 more teachers have earned National Board certification, a rigorous process administered by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Officials said Richland 2 had the highest number of teachers with the new certification than any other district. Richland 1 is second, followed by Greenville County schools.
In total, the district has 654 National Board Certified Teachers. Each teacher receives $5,000 annually for the 10-year life of the certificate; teachers who applied for certification before July 1, 2010 earn $7,500 annually.
