Weekend will feel more like spring than winter

January 10, 2013

Temperatures are expected to flirt with record highs this weekend.

The Columbia record highs for both Saturday and Sunday are 77. The forecasts for this weekend range from 74 to 76 on Saturday and 74 to 77 on Sunday, depending on the sources. The National Weather Service and weather.com expect temperatures near the lower range, while Accuweather is trending higher.

The Saturday record has stood since 1916, while the Sunday record was last set in 2005.

The warm weekend comes on the heels of the national release of statewide average temperatures for 2012, which showed that last year’s daily average of 64.4 was the sixth warmest in state history. Last year tied for the hottest year for Columbia, dating back to the start of record-keeping in 1887.
