LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC — A 23-year-old Columbia man was charged with attempted murder in the Thursday evening shooting at an Irmo motel that left two men wounded. A second suspect is also being sought, the Lexington County Sheriffs Department said.
Kenneth Daniel Toland of Zimalcrest Drive was taken into custody by Richland County authorities during a traffic stop on Friday.
According to authorities, Toland and another man went to the Country Inn & Suites on Piney Grove Road to meet three other Columbia men Thursday night. During the meeting in the motel parking lot, a fight broke out and two men, identified by the sheriffs department as Denzell LaBrew, 18 and Hakiim Rasheed Pope, Jr., 24, were shot. LaBrew remained hoispitalized Friday.
Witnesses gave investigators a description of Tolands car as well as the license plate number.
An investigation into the shooting continues, Sheriff James Metts said to determine the purpose of the meeting and cause of the fight.
