Sue Berkowitz has been appointed to assist in the search for a new Richland County elections director.
The Elections and Voter Registration Board announced Friday that a four-person committee will help recruit a director to replace Lillian McBride, who stepped down from her post after a protracted review of the countys Nov. 6 voter problems.
Berkowitz is a lawyer and head of the S.C. Appleseed Legal Justice Center. Herbert Sims, a member of the election board, will serve on the committee as will two other members to be appointed by Sen. Darrell Jackson, D-Richland, and Kelvin Washington, chairman of Richland County Council.
