Ex-Coastal coach to lead new Lexington prep team

Bennett to be AD, coach at River Bluff

Former Coastal Carolina coach David Bennett is the first football coach and athletics director at River Bluff High near Lexington.

The school opens for classes in August.

Bennett is athletics director and guidance counselor at Socastee High on the Grand Strand during the current academic year.

Before coming to Socastee, Bennett started the football program at Coastal Carolina. He then served as football coach for 10 years and was named the 2004 and 2010 Big South Coach of the Year, 2004 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Regional Coach of the Year and 2006 Sport-Tex National Coach of the Year.

He led Coastal to the FCS playoffs in 2006 and 2010 and to Big South championships in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2010.

Bennett received his bachelor’s degree in history and social studies from Presbyterian College and his master’s degree in guidance and counseling from Clemson, while also serving as a graduate assistant football coach under Danny Ford.
